New World screwworm
Veal Farmers of Ontario (VFO) is closely monitoring developments related to the recent confirmed cases of New World screwworm in the United States and ongoing outbreak in Mexico.
At this time, the disease has not yet been detected in Canada, however VFO continues to monitor the situation and is actively engaged with our dairy and beef sector colleagues, and government agencies.
Updates and resources will be posted here as they are made available. In addition, any significant developments related to the veal and dairy calf sector will be shared via email.

The CFIA implements disease control measures to prevent spread of New World screwworm
Following a confirmed finding of New World screwworm in a calf in Texas, the CFIA announced that it will implement temporary import restrictions on livestock, including horses, from entering Canada from affected areas. Animals that originate from or were present in the State of Texas within 21 days prior to border crossing will not be accepted into Canada.
