Ontario Agriculture Sustainability Coalition Congratulates Premier Ford and Elected Members of Parliament
The Ontario Agriculture Sustainability Coalition (OASC) wishes to congratulate Premier Ford and the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario on their successful bid to form the next Ontario government, and to all elected and re-elected Members of Provincial Parliament.
The OASC leaders look forward to working closely with the 44th Parliament of Ontario to help strengthen and grow Ontario’s agriculture and agri-business sectors. Specifically, OASC is eager to begin work with the new government to implement the $100 million dollar increase to Ontario’s Risk Management Program (RMP) and Self-Directed Risk Management Program (SDRM) to ensure farmers have increased protection against market volatility and production risks.
“Our conversations with Premier Ford and Ministers Flack and Bethlenfalvy over the past year give me great confidence that this government recognizes the unique nature and needs of our industry, exemplified by their recent increase to the RMP and SDRM program budget,” says Mike Chromczak, OFVGA Vice-Chair and OASC Co-Chair. “Farmers appreciate having a strong partner at Queen’s Park and I look forward to working with this government as we navigate the uncertain times ahead.”
“OASC congratulates Premier Ford and all elected Members of Provincial Parliament. We look forward to working closely with the government to ensure the phased-in $100 million increase in years two and three delivers meaningful support for Ontario’s farmers and strengthens our province’s agri-food sector,” shares Tara Terpstra, Ontario Pork Chair and OASC Co-Chair.
Ensuring that farmers and agri-food businesses have access to sufficient risk protection and financial supports to help mitigate ongoing trade threats, input cost volatility, and potential supply chain disruptions is of paramount importance, and will form the core focus of OASC’s work with the new government over the next several weeks and months.
